Evacuation order
An evacuation order means there is an immediate threat to your life, and you need to leave immediately. Do not delay, as staying could put you in danger. This is a lawful order to leave, and the area is closed to public access.
Evacuation warning
Issued when there is a potential threat to your life and/or property. This is the time to prepare for a possible evacuation. If you need extra time to leave, or if you have large animals, it is strongly recommended that you evacuate when a warning is issued.
Sometimes you might see an evacuation warning before an evacuation order. An evacuation warning gives you extra time to get ready.
Shelter in place
A shelter in place order means you need to go inside and stay there. Close and lock all doors and windows and prepare to remain inside until further notice and/or when instructed by emergency personnel.
Make sure you have supplies on hand for staying in place. You’ll get another alert when the shelter in place order is lifted.
Red flag warning
When the weather creates conditions for extreme wildfire risks, the National Weather Service issues a red flag warning. A simple spark could cause a major wildfire. If you see smoke, call 9-1-1 to report it.
When there is a red flag warning, you should:
- Make sure you’re ready in case you need to evacuate
- Ensure your car has a full tank of gas or is fully charged
- Keep your cellphone charged
- Stay tuned for further warnings or an evacuation order
